Sakura Market Bag

Difficulty: Easy/Intermediate
Gauge: 5 half double crochets = approx. 1 inch
Size: The bottom part is 20 cm diameter, the bag is approx. 32 cm tall without the straps, but stretches when in use.

Materials needed:
4 mm (G) size Hook
approx. 85-90 grams of Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK (I used Lime Green shade)
Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Scissors
Stitch markers if needed

Stitches used and Abbreviations:
MR = magic ring
CH = chain
SC = single crochet
SK = skip
SP = space
ST/STS= stitch/ stitches
SLST = slip stitch
HDC = half double crochet
DC = double crochet
FPHDC = front post half double crochet
FPDC = front post double crochet
FPSC = front post single crochet
*-* =repeat pattern between these symbols

Special Stitches:

Front post single crochet:
Insert your hook from the front around the post of given stitch, from right to left, yarn over and finish single crochet as usual.

Front post half double crochet:
Yarn over, insert your hook from the front around the post of given stitch, from right to left, yarn over and finish your half double crochet as usual.
Front post double crochet:
Yarn over, insert your hook from the front around the post of given stitch, from right to left, yarn over and finish your double crochet as usual.

Additional notes:
US terms used throughout
Each round starts with a Chain 1, 2 or 3. These are not counted as a stitch unless instructed otherwise

To start: MR
Round 1: CH 3, DC 12 into the ring, join with a SLST to first DC (not CH 3)              (12 DC)
Round 2: CH 2, 1 DC in same ST, FPDC around the CH 3 from previous round AND same ST you just put a DC into, *1DC in next ST, FPDC around the same ST* repeat *to* to end, join with a SLST to first DC                        (12 FPDC, 12 DC)
Round 3: CH 2, 1 DC in same ST, 1 DC in next ST (that’s the first FPDC from previous round), FPDC around the same ST you just put a DC into, *1 DC in next 2 STS (note: the 2nd ST is always the FPDC), FPDC around FPDC* repeat *to* to end join with a SLST to first DC                (12 FPDC, 24 DC)
Round 4: SLST to first FPDC from prevoius round, CH 1, SC in same ST, SK 2 STS (those are the 2 DC from prev. round) 7 DC in next FPDC, *SK 2 STS, SC in next FPDC , SK 2 STS, 7 DC in next FPDC* repeat *to* to end, join with a SLST to first SC                   (6 SC, 6  Shells)
Round 5: CH 7 (counts as DC+CH 4) *skip 3 DC, 1 SC in 4th DC of shell, CH 4, skip 3 DC, 1 DC in SC, CH 4, skip 3 DC* repeat *to* to end join with a SLST to the 3rd CH of CH 7                                      (6 DC, 6 SC, 12 CH 4 SP)
Round 6: CH 1, 1 SC in same ST, 4 SC in CH 4 SP, 1 SC in SC, 4 SC in CH 4 SP,* 1 SC in DC, 4 SC in CH 4 SP, 1 SC in SC, 4 SC in CH 4 SP* repeat *to* to end join with a SLST to first SC               (60 SC)
Round 7: CH 2, 2 DC in same ST, 1 DC in next 4 STS, *2 DC in next ST, 1 DC in next 4 STS* repeat *to* to end, join with a SLSTto first DC                   (72 DC)
Round 8: CH 5 (counts as DC+CH 2), SK 1 ST, *1 DC in next ST, CH 2, SK 1 ST* repeat *to* to end, join with a SLST to 3rd CH of CH 5             (36 DC, 36 CH 2 SP)
Round 9: CH 1, 1 SC in same ST, SK next CH 2 SP, 5 DC in next DC, SK next CH 2 SP, *SC in next DC, SK next CH 2 SP, 5 DC in next DC, SK next CH 2 SP* repeat *to* to end, join with a SLST to first SC                    (18 Shells, 18 SC) SEE NOTE AT END
Round 10: CH 2, 1 FPDC around first SC from previous round, CH 3, SK 2 DC, 1 SC in 3rd DC of shell, CH 3, SK 2 DC *1 FPDC around SC from previous round, CH 3, SK 2 DC, 1 SC in 3rd DC of shell, CH 3, SK 2 DC* repeat *to* to end, join with a SLST to first FPDC       (18 FPDC, 18 SC, 36 CH 3 SP)
Round 11: CH 2, 1 FPHDC around FPDC and CH 2 from previous round, 3 SC in CH 3 SP, 1 SC in SC, 3 SC in CH 3 SP, *1 FPHDC around FPDC, 3 SC in CH 3 SP, 1 SC in SC, 3 SC in CH 3 SP* repeat *to* to end, join with a SLST to first FPHDC                  (18 FPHDC, 126 SC)
Round 12: CH 1, 1 FPSC around CH 2 and FPHDC from previous round, 1 SC in next 7 STS, * 1FPSC in next ST, 1 SC in next 7 STS* repeat *to* to end, join with a SLST to first FPSC         (18 FPSC, 126 SC) SEE NOTE BELOW FOR CHANGE TO NEXT ROUND
Round 13: CH 1, 1 SC in same ST, CH 4, SK 3 STS, 1 SC in next ST,* CH 4, SK 3 STS, 1 SC in next ST (note: this stitch is a FPSC from previous round), CH 4, SK 3, 1 SC in next ST* repeat *to*until you do the last SC, then just CH 1 and 1 DC in first SC             (35 CH 4 SP and 1 CH 1+1 DC SP)

Round 16-24: Same as Round 15
Round 25-27: Same as Round 14
Round 28-30: CH 1, 1 SC in this same space,* CH 4, 1 SC in next CH 5 SP* repeat *to* until you do the last SC, then just CH 1, 1 DC in first SC              (35 CH 4 SP and 1 CH 1+1 DC SP)
Round 31: CH 1, 1 SC in this same space,* CH 3, 1 SC in next CH 4 SP* repeat *to* until you do the last SC, then just CH 1, 1 HDC in first SC           (35 CH 3 SP and 1 CH 1+1 HDC SP)

Round 32: CH 1, 2 SC in same SP, 1 SC in next SC, * 3 SC in next CH 3 SP, 1 SC in SC* repeat *to* to end, 1 SC in last SP (there are 2 SC in that SP you made when started this round) join with a SLST to first SC                      (144 SC)
Round 33: CH 1, 1 HDC in same ST, 1 HDC in each ST to end, join with a SLST to first HDC      (144 HDC)
Round 34: CH 1, 1 HDC in same ST, 1 HDC in each ST to end, join with a SLST to first HDC      (144 HDC)
Round 35: CH 1, 1 SC in same ST, 1 SC in next 39 STS, CH 80, SK 32 STS, 1 SC in next 40 STS, CH 80, SK 32 STS, SLST to first SC                    (80 SC, 160 CH)
Round 36: CH 1, 1 SC in same ST, 1 SC in next 39 STS, 1 SC in next 80 CH, 1 SC in next 40 STS, 1 SC in next 80 CH, join with a SLST to first SC                  (240 SC)
Round 37 CH 1, 1 SC in same ST, 1 SC in each ST to end, join with a SLST to first SC            (240 SC)
Round 38: CH 1, 1 SC in same ST, 1 SC in each ST to end, join with a SLST to first SC            (240 SC)

Fasten off, weave in all ends.

NOTE - This made 12 not 18 shells so this change was made...

Round 13: CH 1, 1 SC in same ST, CH 3, SK 2 STS, 1 SC in next ST,* CH 3, SK 2 STS, 1 SC in next ST, CH 3, SK 2, 1 SC in next ST* repeat *to*until you do the last SC, then just CH 1 and 1 DC in first SC   (31 CH 3 SP)

Round 32: 3 SC in each SP join with a SLST to first SC  (93 SC)
